KETERKAITAN FORAMINIFERA DAN KEDALAMAN PERAIRAN SEBELAH TENGGARA PULAU SERAM, MALUKU
Abstract
Daerah penelitian merupakan perairan dalam di tenggara Pulau Seram yang berbatasan antara Laut Seram di bagian utara dan Laut Banda di bagian selatan. Laut dalam merupakan ekosistem unik yang perlu diketahui kandungan biotanya termasuk foraminifera. Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui kelimpahan dan keterkaitan foraminifera dengan laut dalam. Penelitian foraminifera menggunakan 9 (sembilan) sampel sedimen hasil cucian melalui proses preparasi, observasi dan analisis spesies. Hasil pengamatan menemukan 20 spesies foraminifera planktonik didominasi oleh Globigerina bulloides dan beberapa spesies lain yang kurang melimpah diantaranya Globorotalia tumida, Orbulina suturalis dan Orbulina universa. Ditemukan 9 spesies foraminifera bentonik dalam jumlah kurang melimpah dan diwakili oleh kehadiran Bolivinella elegans sebagai komponen laut dalam. Nilai rasio foraminifera planktonik dan bentonik (rasio P/B) pada semua stasiun lebih dari 90% yang termasuk dalam klasifikasi lingkungan batial bawah.

The study area is deep sea located in south eastern part of Seram Island that facing too deep seas of Seram and Banda. The deep sea is a unique ecosystem that should be explored the biota composition, including foraminifera. The aim of this study is to determine the assemblage and relationship between foraminifera and water depth. The foraminiferal study used 9 (nine) washed sediment samples through sample preparation, observation and species analysis. There are 20 identified species of planktonic foraminifera dominated by Globigerina bulloides and other several species which are less abundant such as Globorotalia tumida, Orbulina suturalis and Orbulina universa. It is found 9 species of benthic foraminifera that were less abundant and represented by Bolivinella elegans as deep water component. The ratio values between planktonic and benthonic foraminifera (P/B ratio) for all samples are more than 90% that is classified as lower bathyal zone.
